Standing Man by Su John

Standing Man - Monoprint - 12 x 6 inches

Mono print rendered in matt black oil inks.
The image has been created by scratching black oil ink onto lino, again I was exploring the human form but this time strength movement.

Thinking Man by Su Johns

The Thinking Man – Monoprint - 23 x 15 inches

A large mono print. Again I was inspired by a black and white photograph. I tried to depict a figure deep in his own thoughts, maybe reflecting or regretting missing opportunities

Running Man by Su Johns

Standing and Running Man – Monoprint - 12 x 6 inches

Mono prints rendered in matt black oil inks.
The image that has been created by scratching black oil ink onto lino, again I was exploring the human form but this time strength movement.

Darwin by Sue Johns

Darwin - Monoprint -4 x 4,5 inches

Influenced by Darwin.  Artist Proof .

I have created this dramatic image from the influences of Charles Darwin, complimented by studies of the human face and the emotions it expresses visually. The strong lines and distorted face depicts the anxiety and confusion of life. This unique print is an artist proof, created on the highest quality bleached white water colour paper. The image is signed by the artist and measures 4 x 5.5 ins.

Orange and Blue Figure by Su Johns

Oranges and Blue Figure – Monoprint - 23 x 15 inches

The inspiration for this mono print was a figure image I saw in a magazine.
The print is rendered in very strong oranges and blues and it gives it a very contemporary feel. The mono print is saturated with strong bold colours of orange and blue oil inks, which almost overrides the image itself.

Sitting Man by Sue John

The Sitting Man- Monoprint- 15 x 20 inches

A very large mono print influenced by Picassos work, the ink is scraped of the plate giving the impression of the figure merging from the background. I worked very quickly not looking to create any detail at all, just creating a large male form.
The jet black matt oil ink lends itself to this technique.

Sue John

I have worked as an artist and illustrator for most of my adult life. Since studying illustration at university for 5 years I have explored a diverse verity of media.
I have a strong interest in natural forms, figurative work and abstraction.
My subjects have been wide and varied and have included men, birds, dogs, horses, religious psychological/social motifs.
I have been fortunate to have been awarded a number of public commissions by local authorities.

My love of print making allows me to portray and express human emotion, through a variety of techniques and the spontaneous applications of ink. My work includes minute details which can easily be missed, like hidden clues. I like to think that my work is challenging and that I cross between a painter, photographer and printmaker.

All my work is an outcome from my personal studies and sketches of every day life.
I apply layers and textures to my work, my portraits for example are created to depict the sitter’s personality by exploiting a variety of different materials within the work.

My work is held in a number of private collections and within the public domain.
