Silkscreen Printing for Beginners

Tutor:- John Sargeaunt

23rd January 2010

Silk Screen Course Jan 2010

The course in action

You will learn how to handle screens and waterbased inks to produce marks on paper, This will include experimenting with cut and torn paper stencils, found shapes, waterbased crayons and paints to stop out areas of the screen. You will use the squeegee or card to apply the ink and you will also experiment with inks of varying transparancy to discover what exciting marks can be made when overlaying different colours.

You will then work on a design of your own using the knowledge you have gained during the first part of the course

Technical notes and necessary materials will be provided but it would be helpful to bring some broad ideas for for your final design.

Keep Out Mon to Friday by John Sargeaunt

John started printing in the 60's and was soon captivated by the ability of screen printing to deliver strong colour images. Since then he has explored several other print mediums such as acid and solar etching but has returned to the screen and now adds a painterly approach to the medium
